Scrambling
Introductory & Advanced Courses What is Scrambling?
As the ground steepens over rocky terrain the use of hands are
required to aid movement. This adds a tremendous amount of fun
and interest to climbing a mountain. Scrambles are graded between
1 and 3. A grade 1 scramble covers only short and easy bursts
of steep ground where as a grade 3 starts to tend towards an
easy rock climb necessitating the use of a rope and good route
finding skills.
- 2 or 5 day scrambling courses available
- Accommodation included in price, extra nights possible

Compass
West now offers a five day scrambling course in the mountains of the
Costa Blanca. The highest peaks of the area are 250 meters higher
than Ben Nevis. This altitude coupled with the unique rocky terrain,
and not forgetting sunny climate, makes the region an ideal scramblers
playground.
The area will be unlocked before you as we traverse its famous, alpine-like,
ridges such as the Bernia and the Monte Castellets. Quality scrambles
are also found on the prominent peaks like Puig Campana or the Ponoch. Breathtaking
views abound of the sea and surrounding country as you ascend the solid
limestone rock. There will even
be the option, should you choose, of descending down a stunning deep
canyon, positioning yourself in the middle of nowhere while on a via
ferrata or trying out a bit of introductory rock climbing.
During the week you will be taught the art of moving
safely and efficiently over steep terrain. Simple ropework
will be covered, route-finding techniques discussed and how the weather
(or lack of it) can play its role in the mountain environment.
So if you're a hillwalker with the desire to be on more adventurous
terrain, a scrambler who needs to know the ropework those harder routes
demand or a climber that wants to see and explore a new mountain area
we can tailor the course for you. |
