SUMMER ROCK CLIMBING IN CORNWALL
Itinerary and dates

Courses for beginners to advanced levels
July - August - September

Compass West ISR (International School of Rock Climbing) has two home bases. One in Sennen, South West Cornwall and the other in Finestrat South Eastern Sierras of Spain.

climbing in CornwallOur centre in Sennen is centrally located to take advantage of all the superb rock climbing which this area is world famous for. Most of the crags are near at hand and none take longer than 30 mins to reach. This gives our students more time for rock climbing and not too much time spent on approach walks etc. All have sunny aspects and the rock is rough, solid and very friendly to climb on. It is also particularly good for teaching rock climbing skills.

Course includes 7 nights accommodation, 5 full days of climbing, covering every aspect of rock climbing. Students are taught how to use leader placed protection gear both on single and multi-pitch routes.

The courses are well balanced between single pitch and multi-pitch rock climbs. As each day progresses your fitness and competence is assessed. As you progress we introduce more advanced techniques. One half day of instruction in self rescue techniques will be included. This short programme gives students the confidence of knowing how to look after themselves and their companions.

climbing in CornwallThe whole course is based on using leader placed gear, often known as 'adventure climbing'. You will be given instruction in the use of all the latest rock climbing protection equipment, nuts, friends and cams etc. and how to use it. Leading rock climbs is encouraged were ever possible but only for those who wish to and are (in our judgement) capable.

Initially we start the course on the small outcrops close by and as your experience grows we progress onto the longer and more advanced rock climbs. Our courses would normally be called 'skills courses' but we never lose sight of the other side of your visit which is to enjoy the outdoors and the wonderful experience of rock climbing with like minded people in beautiful surroundings. Our courses are tailored to suit all abilities and levels of climbing be it beginner to advanced.
