Nabeel climbing in The Costa Blanca Spain

Comments sent to us by Nabeel
"I had very little knowledge about the Costa Blanca
before heading out there. And even less about Compass
West. Someone had recommended them as I searched the
internet. But what a find! Rowland, Mark and Betty
were absolutely fantastic. And the best part about my
4 days climbing with them was the fact that they made
me feel like a "partner" not a client. Rowland and
Mark are highly competent climbers and great teachers.
Being rusty on lead, Mark coaxed me back into my lead
game. And Rowland read my mind and took me on an
alpine adventure called Cynical Pinnacle - one of the
best moderate multi-pitch routes I have done. And
Betty's hospitality was also wonderful - thanks for a
lovely dinner on my parting night!
I will surely be back to the Costa Blanca to climb
with the best and also to climb in a T-shirt in
January with views of the Mediterranean all around!"

Leonneke and Marco Christmas 2007

Comments from Marco

What to do around Christmas? Stuff yourself with as much food you can take? Bore your family to death? Possible, but try Rock Climbing for a change. Me and Leonneke did so last Christmas (2007). We attended the NKBV Finestrat 7 day rock climbing course. To our surprise we were the only two attendees for this trip!
From the balcony of our appartment in the village of Finestrat we had a wonderful view on the mountain Puig Campana, our habitat for the next 7 days. This area is the office space of Mark Edwards and his father. They know every possible crack over there. They’ve created their own paradise of routes and even got to name an entire valley.
In those 7 days Mark took us through a lot of aspects of rock climbing. Since there are not many prepared routes, you’ll have to find your way with nuts and friends. Since we were beginners we only did the easy routes. If you want to experience more lead climbing with nuts and friends, try the lead climbing course they’ll start in 2008.
Mark, Betty and Rowland are great hosts. We had a superb Christmas meal over at their house. You’ll not only learn rock climbing, but you’ll also enjoy the jokes, great stories and hospitality they have in store for you!
Here are some photo’s of ‘Mickey‘, ‘Angelina Jolie’ and ‘Frodo’ (promoted to Gandalf by Angelina).

---------------

Back for another year escaping the English winter for a week's suberb climbing with Mark. Went on the Castellets Ridge for most of the week which nobody except Mark knows about but it will be a premier climbing area in a few years time. My course companion Doctor "Five a Day" Kate had only been climbing for less than a year but she was still as good as me on the climbing and we both went for it on the suberb rock on the last day. I have been coming with Compass West for fifteen years but am still learning new things. I love the Costa Blanca sun, the suberb rock and the good mediterranean food but above all the care, the companionship and the suberb tuition of the Compass West team."

Best wishes

Dave
